UVOTec and FMH Conveyors drive efficiency for leading E-tailers

In Europe, logistics generally makes extensive use of pallets to transport goods. For e-commerce, this is not always appropriate. UVO Technologies responds to this and is the exclusive distributor for Benelux and France of FMH Conveyors, which builds systems for loading and unloading non-palletised goods, as well as mobile roller conveyor and conveyor belt systems. Laurent Uvo of UVO Technologies explains why these systems are so suitable for e-commerce. They are already being deployed by several leading e-tailers, such as Amazon, UPS, ....

UVO Technologies focuses on supplying material handling systems for applications in various sectors within the transport equipment industry. "Within our operating area, we represent FMH Conveyors for Benelux and France, says Laurent Uvo. "FMH Coveyors specialises in the production of so-called telescopic belt conveyors and flexible roller conveyors, suitable for faster and more ergonomic loading and unloading of general cargo from trucks and containers. The range consists of five different types of systems, of which BestConnect was developed three years ago for e-commerce at the request of the undisputed number one e-tailer worldwide. Since then, all branches have been staffed with FMH Conveyors' products from the US to Europe."

Reconfigurable
BestConnect is a mobile, reconfigurable roller conveyor system. Laurent: "It consists of several separate parts that can be mechanically/electrically linked together very easily (plug & play) in a configuration desired by the user. A 220-volt power supply is sufficient to operate the system, making it mobile. It also allows the configuration to change over time. Indeed, the logistics sector needs flexibility. Users need an automated system, but do not always know exactly what they need. With time, they can decide what is the best configuration of the system. In certain cases, it may be useful to move a conveyor belt by one metre, for example. That may not seem like much, but it is important for some users. Or in certain peak periods, set up the configuration slightly differently. BestConnect offers this flexibility. It is also possible to expand or dismantle the system, move it (because everything is on wheels) and rebuild it in another warehouse across the street or 200 kilometres away. The individual components are available in all lengths and fit perfectly in a truck."

45-degree connections
The flexibility of BestConnect makes it very easy for a user to respond to future needs, according to Laurent. "Some fixed conveyor systems are already useless after two years, especially in e-commerce that continues to grow year after year, and thus requires flexible deployment. With BestConnect, you can very easily buy a number of additional conveyors and hook them up to the existing system or completely reconfigure the set-up to meet the latest needs. Of course, it is also possible to link BestConnect to a fixed conveyor system. Apart from straight 'lines', BestConnect also provides 45-degree insertion lanes, sorting lanes as well as integrated weighing systems. A wide range of configurations is thus possible. "Indeed, the speed of the roller conveyor is manually adjustable and can therefore be easily adapted for each application."

Laurent concluded: "Initially, BestConnect was developed at the request of Amazon, but given the interest in the logistics sector, we know that this product can be used in several market segments. For example, we have also supplied similar systems at UPS Supply Chain Solutions to enable palletless loading."
